PinTrove
Save places before they slip away.
PinTrove is a place keeper for iPhone. Save the spots you want to remember, file them the way you think about them, and find them again on a map. There is no account to make and no sign in, your places stay on your device, and iCloud keeps a private backup if you want one.
What it does
-
Five ways to save a place
Search for it, use where you are standing, read the location out of a photo or video, pick it on a map, or type coordinates.
-
Collections, manual or smart
Group places by hand, or write rules and let smart collections gather them for you by date, area, rating, status, and more.
-
Everything on one map
Filter by collection, search your pins and real places together, and hand any place off to Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze.
-
Your own details
Add notes, an emoji, a rating out of five, and whether you want to go or have already been.
-
Add many at once
Set an area, search it for a kind of place like parks or coffee, and save everything you check at once. Requires PinTrove Pro.
-
Share sets of places
Send a whole trip, a food list, or one favorite spot as a file through Messages, Mail, or AirDrop.
-
Private iCloud backup
Signed in to iCloud, your places come back on a new device automatically, through your own Apple Account.
-
Private by default
No account, no PinTrove server, no tracking, no ads, no analytics. Location is optional, is never sent to us, and address lookups go only to Apple Maps.
How it works
- Save a placeTap the plus button and pick whichever way suits the moment.
- Give it a name and a homeName it, add notes if you like, and file it into a collection.
- Find it againOpen the map, or the collection, and navigate straight there.
Pricing
PinTrove is free to download and free to save your first few places.
PinTrove Pro unlocks unlimited places, adding many at once, and importing and exporting your library, including pins other people share with you. It is an auto renewing subscription offered by the month or by the year. The monthly plan starts with a free trial for accounts that have not used one before. The current price is always shown inside the app before you buy anything.
Your places are never taken away. If a subscription ends, everything you saved stays exactly where it is.
Requirements
iPhone running iOS 26.5 or later. An iCloud account is optional and is only used for backup and sync.

The basics
What a pin is
One saved place. Its coordinates are the exact spot, and the name and address are how you recognize it later.
Adding a pin
Tap the plus button, choose how you want to find the place, then review and save. Every way of adding except Find Many Places ends on the same Review Pin screen.
Finding your way around
Collections is your library, Map shows everything geographically, Share sends and receives pins, and Settings tunes almost everything.
Free and Pro
The free version saves up to three pins. PinTrove Pro unlocks unlimited pins, Find Many Places, and importing and exporting.
Ways to add a pin
Search address or place
Type a business, landmark, or street address and pick a result.
Use current location
Saves where you are standing. PinTrove asks for location once, and sends the coordinate to Apple only to look up its address.
Choose photo or video
Reads only the GPS coordinates and the date from the file you pick. The photo or video itself is never stored or uploaded.
Pick on map
Move the map under the crosshair, then tap Set Pin Here. It opens where you were last looking.
Enter coordinates
Paste a latitude and longitude in decimal, degrees and minutes and seconds, or directional form.
Find many places
Set an area, type a kind of place like parks or coffee, check what you want, and save them all at once. Requires PinTrove Pro.
Naming a pin
The name is the one required field. Tap the wand to suggest one, and choose how new pins are named in Settings under New Pins.
Possible duplicates
If a new pin looks like one you already have, the review screen says so before you save. You can still save it as a separate pin.
Organizing
Manual collections
You choose exactly which pins go in. Add a pin from the review screen, its detail screen, a swipe, or a press and hold.
Smart collections
Rules gather pins automatically, so the collection keeps itself up to date. You never add or remove pins by hand.
Smart rules
Match on date, area on a map, favorite, rating, status, source, collection, or region. Combine several with All or Any.
Favorites
Favorite a pin to mark it, and favorite a collection to move it to the Favorites group at the top of the Collections screen.
The All collection
Holds every pin you have saved, unless you have chosen to keep frequent pins in their own collection. Settings under Collections controls where it appears.
Reordering collections
Set the sort to Manual Order first, then tap the reorder button, drag rows where you want them, and tap the checkmark.
Sorting your lists
Set what new lists start with in Settings under Sorting Defaults.
Pin details
Emoji
Give a pin an emoji and it replaces the pin's marker on the map and its glyph in lists.
Rating and status
Rate a pin one to five stars and mark it Want to Go or Visited. Smart collections can gather pins by either one.
Notes and date
Add free notes and set the date the place was captured. Notes are searchable and travel when you share a pin. The date stays private to you.
Editing a pin
Open a pin and tap Edit. The address, the coordinates, and the map are all tappable ways to move it somewhere else.
The map
Filtering and searching
Filter the map to any collection from the control at the top, and search your own pins and real places in the same field.
Looking up any place
Press and hold anywhere on the map to see what is there. The card that appears can add it as a pin, navigate to it, copy it, or share it.
Grouped pins
Numbered circles group pins that are close together. Tap one to zoom in and pull the group apart.
Navigating
Tap a pin, then Navigate. Choose Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze. Set a default in Settings under Navigation App and it becomes the one-tap choice in that menu.
Find Nearest Location
A pin holds one fixed address. When you travel, Find Nearest Location in the Navigate menu searches that same name around where you are now and lists what is closest.
Add Here
Opens Pick on Map centered on exactly what you are looking at, so you can drop a pin without hunting for the spot again.
Map style
Switch between Standard, Hybrid, and Satellite from the control in the top right. Your choice is remembered.
Where the map opens
Settings under Map sets how the map is framed when you open it: all your pins, or a fixed width in miles centered on you. Tap the Map tab while you are already on it to frame it again.
Shortcuts
Swipe a pin
Swipe right to favorite it or file it into a collection. Swipe left to remove it from the collection you are in, or to delete it.
Swipe a collection
Swipe right to favorite it. Swipe left to delete it, except for All and Frequent Places, which the app manages for you.
Press and hold a row
Press and hold a pin for navigate, copy, show on map, and collection actions. Press and hold a collection to favorite, edit, or delete it.
Home Screen shortcuts
Press and hold the PinTrove icon on your Home Screen to jump straight into saving your current location, searching, or using a photo or video.
Undo
Removing a pin from a collection shows a brief message with an Undo button. Tap the message before it fades to put things back.
Sharing
Sending pins
Check pins or whole collections into your Share Queue, then send them as one PinTrove file through Messages, Mail, or AirDrop.
Receiving pins
Open a PinTrove file someone sent you and it lands in your Import Queue for free. Bringing those pins into your library requires PinTrove Pro.
Copying and sharing text
Any pin can copy or share its name, address, and coordinates as plain text, for people who do not have PinTrove.
Your data
iCloud sync
Signed in to iCloud, your pins, collections, and settings back up privately through your Apple Account and come back on a new device.
Backups
Settings under Import and Export writes a JSON file of your library and reads it back. Requires PinTrove Pro.
Frequent Places
Optional and off by default. It notices places you return to and offers to save them. It needs Always location access, and you can pause or turn it off anytime.
Privacy
No account, no PinTrove server, no tracking, no ads. Settings under Privacy Dashboard lists what PinTrove does and does not store. The full privacy policy is on this site.
Deleting everything
Settings under Delete All Data removes every pin and collection, plus shares other people sent you, then takes you back through setup. With iCloud sync on it clears your other devices too, and it cannot be undone.
Subscription
PinTrove Pro
Unlocks unlimited pins, Find Many Places, and importing and exporting, including pins other people share with you. Manage or cancel anytime in your Apple Account settings.
Restoring a purchase
Settings under Subscription has Restore Purchases, which re-checks the Apple Account you are signed in with.
Nothing is deleted if Pro ends
If a subscription lapses, every pin you saved stays exactly where it is. Pins past the free limit stay locked until you subscribe again.
Cancelling or asking for a refund
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so both happen there. Cancel in the Settings app under your name, then Subscriptions. Refunds are requested at reportaproblem.apple.com.
If something is not working
My pins did not come back on a new device
Check that the same Apple Account is signed in to iCloud on both devices, and that you have a good connection. The first sync after installing is not instant. Settings under iCloud and Sync shows the current account status and the last sync activity.
Frequent Places is not finding anything
It needs location set to Always, and it needs time. It waits until you have genuinely returned to a place on several different days before it suggests anything, which is what stops it filling your library with noise.
A shared file will not open
PinTrove files end in .ptrove and open with PinTrove. If the file arrived compressed, unzip it first. Importing shared pins requires Pro.
The map is asking for my location
Only when you use a feature that needs it. You can decline and keep using every other part of the app, and you can change your mind later in the Settings app under PinTrove.

Privacy Policy
Effective September 1, 2026. Last updated September 1, 2026.
This policy explains what PinTrove does with information when you use the PinTrove app for iPhone. It is short because PinTrove does very little with information, which is deliberate.
The short version. PinTrove has no user accounts and no PinTrove server. Everything you create stays on your iPhone, and, if you choose, in your own private iCloud storage. The developer cannot see any of it. There is no tracking, no advertising, no analytics, and nothing is ever sold or shared.
Who this policy is from
PinTrove is an independent iPhone app. In this policy, "we" and "the developer" mean the individual developer who publishes PinTrove on the App Store, and "you" means the person using the app. You can reach us at clunk_muscat_5y@icloud.com.
Information we collect
None. PinTrove does not collect personal information. There is no sign up, no login, no profile, and no PinTrove server for information to be sent to. We do not receive your saved places, your notes, your location, your photos, your contacts, your device identifiers, or any usage statistics.
Information the app stores on your device
Everything you create in PinTrove is stored locally on your iPhone by the app:
- Saved places, including their names, coordinates, addresses, notes, emoji, ratings, and status.
- Your collections and the rules that drive smart collections.
- Your preferences, and the display nickname you enter, which is used only to label places you choose to share.
- If you turn on Frequent Places, per place summaries used to work out where you return to, such as an approximate center and how often you arrive. There is no trail of your movements.
This information belongs to you. Deleting the app removes all of it from the device, and the Delete All Data control in Settings removes it without uninstalling.
iCloud backup and sync
If you are signed in to iCloud, PinTrove uses Apple's CloudKit to mirror your places, collections, preferences, and, when Frequent Places is on, its place summaries and the places you excluded from it, to the private database of your own Apple Account, so they return after a reinstall or on a new device. The developer has no access to that private database and cannot read, export, or recover its contents. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can turn iCloud off for PinTrove at any time in the Settings app, and PinTrove keeps working entirely on device.
Location
Location is optional and is only requested when you use a feature that needs it. It is used to save a place at where you are standing, to center the map on you, to search an area around you, and, if you turn it on, to detect places you visit often.
PinTrove never transmits your location to the developer. Turning a coordinate into an address is done by Apple's mapping service, as described below, and iCloud backup is handled by Apple under your own Apple Account. Frequent Places additionally requires the Always permission, because it works while the app is closed, and it is off unless you deliberately turn it on. You can pause it, turn it off, or revoke the permission at any time in the Settings app.
Photos and videos
When you choose to create a place from a photo or a video, PinTrove reads only that item's embedded GPS coordinates and capture date. The image or video itself is never uploaded or transmitted, and no copy is kept. It uses the system picker, so only the single item you select is ever handed to the app and nothing else in your library is read.
Maps, search, and geocoding
PinTrove uses Apple's MapKit to draw maps, to search for addresses and places, and to turn coordinates into addresses. To do that, the query or coordinate is sent to Apple's mapping service by the operating system. Those requests are handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy, and the developer never sees them.
If you send a place to Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze for directions, that place is handed to the app you chose, and it is then covered by that app's own privacy policy.
Purchases
PinTrove Pro is an auto renewing subscription sold through the App Store. Payment is handled entirely by Apple. PinTrove never sees or stores your name, payment method, billing address, or Apple Account details. The app only receives from Apple whether an active subscription exists, so it knows what to unlock.
Sharing places with other people
When you share places from PinTrove, the app creates a file containing the places you selected and the nickname you set, and hands it to whichever method you pick, such as Messages, Mail, or AirDrop. The file travels only through the service you chose. It never passes through any PinTrove server, because there is not one.
No tracking, advertising, or analytics
PinTrove contains no advertising, no analytics, no attribution or measurement code, and no third party software development kits of any kind. Nothing you do in the app is tracked across other apps or websites, and there is no data to sell, rent, or share.
Diagnostics
PinTrove writes ordinary diagnostic messages to the operating system's log on your device, which is standard for iOS apps and stays on your device. If you have separately chosen in iOS to share crash and analytics data with app developers, Apple may provide the developer with anonymized crash reports and aggregate statistics. That choice is yours, it is made in the Settings app under Privacy and Security, and it can be changed at any time.
Children
PinTrove is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. Because the app collects nothing, there is nothing to delete on request.
Your rights and choices
Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export, and delete personal information a company holds about you. The developer holds none, so there is nothing to request. In practice you already have full control:
- Export: PinTrove Pro can export your entire library as a JSON file.
- Correct: every field of every saved place is editable in the app.
- Delete: Delete All Data in Settings removes every place and collection, and with iCloud on it clears them from your other devices too. Removing the app deletes everything on the device, including your preferences. You can also remove PinTrove's iCloud data in the Settings app under your name, iCloud, then Manage Account Storage.
- Withdraw permissions: location can be revoked at any time in the Settings app.
We do not sell or share personal information, and we never have. Because the developer holds nothing, there is no access or deletion request to make of us, and the controls above are the complete set.
Data retention
Because the developer stores nothing, there is no retention period on our side. Information you create is kept for as long as you keep it, on your device and in your own iCloud, and it goes when you delete it. Shares you move to the Trash are removed automatically after 60 days.
Security
Your data sits inside the app's own sandboxed storage on your iPhone, protected by iOS and by your device passcode. Data synced to iCloud is protected by Apple's encryption in transit and at rest, under your Apple Account. Since no data is transmitted to the developer, there is no server of ours to breach.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date at the top. Meaningful changes will also be described in the app's release notes.
